Maharashtra has cleared a ₹1,722.40 crore, 3.55-km four-lane connector at the Bandra Fort end of the under-construction Versova-Bandra Sea Link (VBSL), officially the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Sea Link. The government resolution came through on 28 July 2026, with MSRDC executing. Civil construction accounts for ₹1,183.79 crore; the balance covers GST, land acquisition and allied costs.
Why this connector matters
The stretch from the Sea Link toll plaza to Pali Hill is roughly 2.6 km, but it currently runs largely on one-plus-one lane roads and can take 20 to 30 minutes at peak. The new four-lane alignment, running adjacent to Bandra Fort opposite Taj Lands End, is designed to carry around 3,500 passenger car units per hour and give motorists an alternative way into Bandra West — specifically towards Pali Hill, Bandstand and the Land's End belt.
Seen alongside the wider corridor, it plugs a gap. Once VBSL, this connector and the coastal road network are all live, the western suburbs get a continuous high-speed route into South Mumbai.
What it means for Bandra West buyers
Bandstand, Chimbai, Carter Road and Pali Hill have long carried a location premium without matching road capacity. Direct sea link access changes the daily commute maths for anyone working in Worli, Lower Parel or Nariman Point, and reduces the dependence on Hill Road, Turner Road and SV Road as the only realistic exits.
The practical caveat: this is a 2028-horizon benefit, not a 2026 one. VBSL was about 31% complete as of May 2026 against a 35.84% target, with completion now pencilled in for May 2028. Buyers should also expect construction-phase disruption around Bandstand and Land's End over the next few years.
What it means for Khar West
Khar West gains indirectly but meaningfully. Traffic that today funnels through Linking Road and SV Road to reach the Bandra arm of the sea link will have a cleaner alternative, easing pressure on Khar's internal roads. Redevelopment stock along Khar Danda, 15th Road and the Gazdar Bandh side stands to benefit from that improved through-movement.
The buyer's takeaway
Infrastructure-led appreciation is real in Mumbai's western suburbs, but it is rarely a surprise — a good part of it is priced in the moment approvals are announced. The sensible approach is to treat connectivity as a livability upgrade you will actually use, not as a speculative trigger. Check the developer's RERA registration, confirm realistic possession timelines, and buy the micro-location on its own merits.
